Louis Vuitton debuted its 2024 women’s ready-to-wear collection at 103 Champs-Élysées in Paris. This season, artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière conveyed his signature aesthetic vision, stating that fashion should serve a purpose and seek extraordinary meaning beyond the mundane, especially when traveling.
As the orange hot air balloon slowly rose, Louis Vuitton took us on an unparalleled tour of the fashion art world.
For Spring/Summer 2024, Nicolas Ghesquière created a retro-futuristic wardrobe for the progressive Louis Vuitton woman: layered tulle, rounded shoulders, voluminous silhouettes. By exploring softer contours and celebrating classic French elegance, the “cool girls” wearing Louis Vuitton gained a new lively spirit.
Travel-friendly fashion should be as lightweight and comfortable as possible. Flowy, fluid fabrics dominated the runway – layered silk crepes and satins paired with jackets, leather suspenders or silk shirts.
Victorian-inspired vintage plaids and patterns allowed singular pieces to convey diverse cross-generational styles. Pajama-like softness epitomized versatile travel essentials and starred on the runway – striped taffeta shirts, pants and dresses exuded new-age comfort and practicality. Louis Vuitton’s signature power silhouettes – A-line skirts, varsity jackets, bold shoulders – were reinterpreted in a lighter, portable way.
“We calculated the weight of fabrics down to the gram and considered how pieces should fold – which creases look good, which should be avoided,” Nicolas Ghesquière.
Laser-cut fabrics created textured tweed suits, representing Ghesquière’s ultimate craftsmanship and fusing past with future.
Throughout the show, Louis Vuitton’s spirit of travel remained central. While strongly functional, Nicolas Ghesquière also showed us how to envision the extraordinary under a utilitarian ethos. No singular piece felt plain, making for a wonderfully remarkable fashion journey.
